General Fusion is a four year old pre-IPO technology company. It has just
completed phase one and is now starting its second round of financing in order to
begin work for phase two.
General Fusion intends to create a nuclear fusion reactor in three phases. In
phase one, we built a small machine to investigate shock wave behavior and
target compression. Although not capable of energy production, this small
machine is producing some fusion reactions and therefore demonstrates the
feasibility of the method. This result was achieved after four years of
work. In phase two, General Fusion will use the experience gained so far to
build an experimental reactor that will produce enough fusion reaction to
achieve break-even. The General Fusion team will take four years to achieve this important
milestone. Finally, in phase three, a much larger team will work towards turning
this prototype into a real, cost effective and reliable power generator.
